Check out the less clutter and clean looking new Microsoft MSN. After Yahoo has revamped their website 3 months ago, Microsoft is doing the same with their MSN portal. On the new site, there are five main drop-down menus covering entertainment, news, sports, lifestyle and finance.

The new site integrates with Bing, has Facebook and Twitter feeds and a new MSN Local Edition section.

The MSN branding has been updated with the usage of a thinner font for MSN and a squash up butterfly. The font looks like it comes from Bing.

An interesting report from Mail Online indicated that Kelloggs will start branding individual flakes with laser to stamp out fakes.

From Kelloggs,

We’re constantly looking at new ways to reaffirm this and giving our golden flakes of corn an official stamp of approval could be the answer. We’ve established that it is possible to apply a logo or image onto food, now we need to see if there is a way of repeating it on large quantities of our cereal. We’re looking into it.

Woolworths, the largest supermarket chain in Australia, has rebranded in 2008 with a new logo Apple says resembles the Apple trademark. Woolworths new brand was designed by Hans Hulsbosch who has similar outcry when he did the new Qantas logo.

Woolworths claims that the stylized ‘W’ was been paired with “an abstract apple peel symbol” to represent fresh food.

Pizza Hut Rebranded As The Hut

This seems so wrong, rebranding Pizza Hut as just The Hut. The word “The Hut” will not connect with users as it could mean lots of things. Does it mean a hut down the beach selling young coconuts? The reason behind the rebrand is due to the decline in sales of the company.

Here is the reason given by the CMO of Pizza Hut, Brian Niccol: There’s a big trend in general around having confidence in the foods that you eat. People over the age of 35, whose frequency with pizza is declining, said one of the big things that would reignite their passion with the category is to have a pizza made with multigrain crust and an all natural tomato sauce…

Design is a great way to create an emotional expression for your brand. But the pizza category has been a real laggard in doing that. Our red box is a game changer in packaging and design. And yes, we’re also introducing another vocabulary word with Pizza Hut, which is ‘The Hut.’ That ties in nicely with (today’s) texting generation. We wanted to make sure that Pizza Hut and ‘The Hut’ become common vernacular for our brand. Red is our mark and when you see that red roof, people will refer to it as ‘The Hut’ or ‘Pizza Hut.’ As we expand our online and mobile businesses, ‘The Hut’ is the perfect icon for our mobile generation.
