US Military Testing Tsunami Bomb
The US and New Zealand began testing an underwater tsunami bomb designed to wipe out coastal cities with massive, 30-foot tidal waves.
The top secret operation, code-named “Project Seal” tested the device as a possible rival to the nuclear bomb. About 3,700 bombs were exploded during the tests, first in New Caledonia and also at Whangaparaoa Peninsula, near Auckland New Zealand.
The project was launched in June 1944 after a US naval officer, E A Gibson.
