ComScore research firm says that Facebook had 70.28 million U.S. users last month, topping MySpace’s 70.26 million. Facebook has 307.1 million users worldwide while MySpace has 126.9 million users. Twitter is now the third largest with 7.6 million users.

Facebook Is King Of Social Networking

Market researcher Nielsen Online has found that there is an 83% rise in the use of Facebook in the US compared to last year. Users spent 13.9 billion minutes on Facebook in April 2009.
Twitter comes in strong with 300 million minutes in April 2009. MySpace attracts just under 5 million minutes, a decreased of 31%, according to new figures from Nielsen Online. But MySpace continue to be the number one social networking site for online video.
Facebook Says Holocaust Denial Groups Will Stay

Facebook is now facing a new drama where the popular social networking site is refusing to ban Holocaust Denial Groups like the “Holocaust: A series of Lies,” and “Based on the facts…There was no Holocaust.” Holocaust deniers comes in various forms, some reject the existence of gas chambers or deny that nearly 6 million Jews died.
The US do not treat Holocaust denial as a crime, but a lot of other countries lie Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Israel, Slovakia and Switzerland do.
Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said, “… although the organization does “abhor Nazi ideals and find Holocaust denial repulsive,” the popular social networking Web site believes that people have a right to discuss these ideas…We want Facebook to be a place where ideas, even controversial ideas, can be discussed.”

White House Now On Facebook, Twitter And MySpace

President Barack Obama’s administration has linked the official White House website to various social networking web sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. It is good to see the US government has embraced Web 2.0. Previously, the government has joined up with Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo and iTunes.
Not sure if President Obama will tweet or update Facebook content himself.
Facebook Users Approve New Terms Of Service

75% of the 200 million Facebook members have voted for the new terms of use which give users ownership and control of their own information. Users who voted approved of a new set of Facebook Principles and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities and the forthcoming new Privacy Policy.
Previously, Facebook has angered members after putting a new Terms of Service which removed control of users privacy and user contributed data.
Facebook Hits 200 Million Users

CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in a blog post that Facebook has crossed the 200 million user mark. The average user on Facebook has 120 friends.
Mark said on the Facebook blog: Growing rapidly to 200 million users is a really good start, but we’ve always known that in order for Facebook to help people represent everything that is happening in their world, everyone needs to have a voice. This is why we are working hard to build a service that everyone, everywhere can use, whether they are a person, a company, a president or an organization working for change.
Facebook To Reverse Redesign Due To User Backlash

Fans rejoice, Facebook will make some changes to its popular social network wesbite based on the feedback it has received from angry users due to the redesign of the website. Who likes the new redesign Facebook? There is now more than a million users (94%) voted against the new design. Facebook redesign the interface to mimic more like Twitter.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the new design by saying, It doesn’t change that frequently and that’s the kind of thing you want to have an open dialogue about with users. We trust that with an open dialogue our users will get us to the right place. So far with all the complaints, Mark really need to have an open dialogue instead of just saying it to the media. Now Mark should know the power of the people and Facebook WILL change in the next few weeks with an updated redesign.
Some of the changes posted on the Facebook blog:
- Live updating: One of the most common requests is the ability to see your stream update automatically. We will be adding the ability to turn on auto updating in the near future so you no longer need to refresh the page.
- Photo tags: In order to surface more photos you might like to see, we’ll be adding photos tagged of your friends to the stream. This will happen in the coming weeks.
- More choices for applications: We’ve heard feedback that there is a lot of application content appearing in the stream. We will be giving you tools to control and reduce application content that your friends share into your stream.

One user commented, The new layout sucks. It is not as user friendly, your wall posts get hidden in between status updates and that ‘highlights’ reel is useless and intrusive! Facebook needs a ‘don’t like’ instead of only a like option!
I’m continuing to use my Facebook iPhone app because it makes sense and I can still navigate around it quickly. I just hope they don’t update that soon to ruin the experience on the iPhone app as well as the full website! Not happy!
