A team of scientists announced the discovery of the largest spiral galaxy ever seen called the spiral galaxy NGC 6872. From tip to tip the spiral galaxy NGC 6872 stretches 522,000 light-years, more than five times the length of Milky Way. This galaxy was found after researchers analyzed data from the Galaxy Evolution Explorer satellite.
The Hubble Space Telescope with the newly installed wide field camera, peered deep into the universe and spotted some old galaxies. Scientist believed these galaxies are formed 600 million years after the Big Bang.
