NASA has given another update to the ice melting situation on the Artic. The report indicated that the sea ice fell to 4.10 million square kilometres some 70,000 square kilometres less than the earlier record charted on September 18, 2007. The Arctic ice is important for the planet as it reflects heat from the sun back into space to keep planet’s temperatures down.

Previously, NASA has reported that Greenland’s ice sheet melted over a larger area earlier this month for several days than at any time in more than three decades. 97% of Greenland ice sheet melting as shown on NASA’s satellite data. Researchers do not know if this extensive melt event will contribute to sea level rise.
