Check out the new Apple MacBook Pro commercial.

Over at WDDC 2012 today, Apple announces the new MacBook Pro featuring a Retina display 2880 x 1880, all flash storage and quad-core processors in a thin and light design. So this is not the MacBook Air enclosure users are wanting but at least it is still thinner. The new MBP will measure 0.71 inches and weighing 4.46 pounds.

The Retina display features the latest Intel Core i7 quad-core processors up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.7 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M discrete graphics, up to 16GB of faster 1600 MHz RAM and flash storage up to 768GB. Two Thunderbolt and two USB 3.0 ports allow pro users to connect to multiple displays and high performance devices, and a new HDMI port offers quick connectivity to HDTVs. Also has Bluetooth 4.0, SD card slot, Facetime HD camera and more.

Also looks like there is no 17 inch upgrade with these new feature as it was not mentioned at all during WDDC 2012. Is Apple dropping this configuration?

The new MBP will start at $2199 and available in 5 weeks from now due to shipping delays.

According to the poster on Chinese Forum, WeiPhone, the 15-inch MacBook Pro will not have the thin enclosure as for MacBook Air. The new MBP will have either 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz or 2.7GHz Ivy Bridge processors, a Nvidia’s GeForce GT 650M graphics card with 1GB GDDR5 graphics memory and no Retina Display.

So looks like in today’s WDDC 2012, Apple will announce a new MBP 15 inch which has the same look as the last version.

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference will be on June 11 in San Francisco. Here is what we think Apple will reveal for WDDC 2012 on Monday:

  • Thinner MacBook Pro 15 inch. More info about this below.
  • Refreshed MacBook Air with retina display.
  • iMac, Mac Pro and Mac Mini upgrades with Intel Ivy Bridge.
  • Apple TV.
  • iOS 6 without Google Map and replaced with Apple 3D Map.

The rumour of Apple releasing a new thinner MacBook Pro running Intel Ivy Bridge chipset is now more concrete with these leak specifications for 15 inch MBP:

  • 0.74 inches thick and weighing 4.7 pounds (almost as thin as MacBook Air)
  • four USB 3.0 ports
  •  2560×1600 high-resolution Retina
  • 16GB of 1600MHz DD3 RAM
  • 750GB of hard disk drive space
  • AMD Radeon HD 7770M graphics processor
  • FaceTime HD camera
  • Thunderbolt port
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • SDXC card slot
  • FireWire and Ethernet port.

Thunderbolt, codename Light Peak, is a new high-speed PC connection technology that combines high-speed data transfer and a high-definition display on a single cable. Apple is the first to use Thunderbolt in the market. And this will probably replace USB 3.0.

Students from the University of Tromsø, Norway, created a 22 megapixel display wall using one old MacBook Pro. The display wall consists of 28 projectors and each has a resolution of 1024×768 pixels, totaling 7168×3072 pixels when the projectors are tiled together.

The PhD students also used Apple’s Mac OS X to handle the multiple displays.
