Sony Releases PS3 Slim For $299

Sony officially announced the much-rumored PS3 Slim and now at a more affordable price tag of $299. The new slim console will be similar to the current PS3 model but is 33 percent smaller, 36 percent lighter, and comes with a 120GB hard drive. It will be available on September 1.
Other changes are the console is now branded as PlayStation 3 instead of PLAYSTATION 3, a new PS3 logo and it has a textured surface finish.

PS3 Outselling Wii In Japan

Sony’s PS3 outsold Nintendo’s Wii in Japan for the first time in November. Is this proof that the PS3 is beginning to come back against its rivals?
Sony sold 183,217 PS3 in Japan compared to 159,193 Wii consoles in November. In previous months, the Wii has outsold the PS3 upwards of 6 to 1.

PS3 Firmware 2.0.1

Sony released a new firmware 2.01 update for the Sony PS3 which fixes a couple issues and improves remote boot that was introduced in firmware 2.0.
The new 2.01 firmware stops Remote Start feature via PSP.
This firmware also fixes some game stability issue with the recently released Assassin’s Creed, which has been riddled with freezing and even crashing problems.
The previous firmware 2.0 supports rumble on the new DualShock 3 pad. Games that uses this pad are MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction.
Sony cuts PS3 price by $100, sales double

Sony has made the correct move by slashing the price of the PS3 console by $100. Now the 40GB version of the Playstation 3 cost $399 and Sony sold around 75,000 and 100,000 compared with 30,000 – 40,000 previously.
“It’s the breakthrough we’ve been anticipating,” Sony CEO Howard Stringer told the Associated Press. “We’ve been holding our breath.”
