Sony is not going to change what you get with the normal Playstation Network available on the PS3. The new service, Playstation Plus, will cost $49.99 for a 1-year subscription, and 17.99 for a 3-month subscription.

What you will get from this are: early access to betas and demos, monthly free PSN games, avatars, and a full subscription to HD lifestyle show Qore. Other features are automatic updates for demos, patches, and firmware updates. And just like renting movies, one-hour game trials where you can play the game for an hour before it expires and also have the option to buy it.

The service will be live on June 29.

Red Dead Redemption Reviewed Highly

Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on a great adventure across the American frontier.

Here are some early reviews of the game. More later.

1Up (100/100): This is simply a beautiful game, and it’s provided more than a few moments where I completely forgot where the hell I was supposed to be going while riding over golden hills at sunset or through the desert in the middle of a nighttime lightning storm. It doesn’t quite convey the loneliness of the real empty spaces, but does compress the essence of all the varieties of land and weather native to those parts into a few hundred miles ride.

IGN (97/100): Rockstar has taken the Western to new heights and created one of the deepest, most fun, and most gorgeous games around. You can expect the occasional bug or visual hiccup, but you can also expect a fantastic game that offers the Western experience we’ve all been waiting for.

GameSpot (95/100): This is an outstanding game that tells a great story with memorable and occasionally laugh-out-loud-funny characters. Think about great moments that you remember from spaghetti Western movies, put them all into one 20- to 40-hour epic feature, and picture yourself in the starring role. Now you have some idea of what’s waiting for you in Red Dead Redemption.

Eurogamer (80/100): Rockstar’s skill in creating a believable, functioning world with a distinct, coherent and consistent atmosphere is peerless. The broad-brush vision is masterful.

Splinter Cell: Conviction Scores Highly

You are a fugitive, ruthlessly hunted by the very government you used to serve. Your only choice is to improvise to survive. Experience original gameplay based on improvisation in which your environment is your top weapon. Always on your toes, you need to react on the fly to any changing situations and use the environment and the crowds around you to create diversions and deter your enemies. As a fugitive, quick thinking and adaptation are essential to turn the situation to your advantage. A gameplay experience delivering 100% adrenaline includes close combat and shooting sequences. To survive, build an underground network of allies who will help you obtain high-tech gadgets and stay one step ahead of your pursuers as you struggle to unmask the forces that frame you. You’ve never played Splinter Cell like this before.

More reviews added:

GamePro (100/100): Why Sam has stepped out of the shadows and is on full out attack makes complete sense in context with the story, so if you can accept it for what it is and not dwell on the fact that it isn’t what you’ve come to expect in a Splinter Cell title, you’ll no doubt agree that Conviction rivals Chaos Theory as the best title in the franchise’s history.

IGN (93/100): It was a huge risk deviating from the trial-and-error style that made the series famous, but it paid off. Splinter Cell Conviction is awesome.

1Up (91/100): Conviction’s stylish presentation and intuitive cover mechanics prove that Ubisoft can make a highly polished product, but for the amount of game you get, the price seems sorely inflated.

GameTrailers (89/100): With Conviction, the Splinter Cell series expertly keeps pace with the way stealth games are ploddingly evolving. It even throws in a few flourishes all its own. The result is a great stealth game that’s well worth experiencing, even for newcomers to the series.
