Microsoft Windows 7 Inspired By Apple OS X

Microsoft has unveiled its successor to Vista, Windows 7, to a crowd at the Professional Developers Conference. In this latest incarnation of windows operating system, Microsoft has taken some inspiration from OS X like the dock-style taskbar at the base of the screen. You can drag and drop icons for your most-used apps into the dock. The other feature borrowed from Apple is the easy connection to multiple networks.
The new OS will be less memory intensive, fewer computer alerts and warnings, federated search and enterprise search scopes. Find out more from Microsoft’s press release.
Microsoft Windows 7

Microsoft has officially named the successor to Vista, Microsoft Windows 7. Why the change in naming convention and using numeral instead? We know Apple only use versions number in the OS.
Here is an explanation from the Windows Vista blog, The decision to use the name Windows 7 is about simplicity. Over the years, we have taken different approaches to naming Windows. We’ve used version numbers like Windows 3.11, or dates like Windows 98, or “aspirational” monikers like Windows XP or Windows Vista. And since we do not ship new versions of Windows every year, using a date did not make sense. Likewise, coming up with an all-new “aspirational” name does not do justice to what we are trying to achieve, which is to stay firmly rooted in our aspirations for Windows Vista, while evolving and refining the substantial investments in platform technology in Windows Vista into the next generation of Windows.
